Sponsoring a search dog team
It takes anywhere from 6 months to a year to train a candidate search dog to competency levels to be able to actually locate a missing person on a search. Handlers must then provide for these valuable K9's for the duration of their life. These dogs must be provide a much needed service to their community. Sponsoring a search dog team will include contributing to vet care, housing, needed equipment and training.
Training a search dog to locate a deceased individual is much more difficult than training one for locating live subjects due to the variety of odors and stages of decomposition that must be introduced to the dog for them to be competent. A cadaver dog's training NEVER ends.

Donating a candidate detector dog
It takes a special dog to become a detection dog!
We are looking for dogs between 8 and 20 months of age who are crazy for their toy (ball or tug)!
These dogs need to have an extreme focus on their toy regardless of what is going on around them.
They must be friendly to people and other dogs.
They must be healthy and have cleared hips and eyes.
They must be courageous, inquisitive, athletic and fearless!
If you think you have a good candidate, please contact us and we will instruct you how to shoot a short video for evaluation
Thank you for your time and consideration for donating to FIRST Detection K9.
Our number one goal is to provide quality detection teams to the communities we serve.
