Other types of Detection K9's

FIRST Detection K9 is a 501 c3 Non Profit organization.

While FIRST Detection K9 was conceived to provide services for search and rescue/recovery missions, over time FIRST has expanded to include other types of detection K9's in it's operations. A subsidiary, K9s 4 Conservation, is a group dedicated to the rescue of sea turtle eggs and cold shocked sea turtles.
FIRST is also open to training other dogs for conservation projects.

ARCHAEOLOGIC Historic/pre-contact GRAVE DETECTION
FIRST began working with Archeologists in 2019 deploying HRD dogs for historic and pre-contact grave detection and is available for consultation on such cases.
If you are interested in dogs for archaeologic work, contact Ben Alexander at 979-739-8353.

Who We Are

We are a 501 c3 Non-profit organization dedicated to furthering investigations, research, standards and training.

Some people are destined to certain futures. Dr. Ben Alexander and Tiffanie Turner are two of those individuals. Ben began training in obedience at the tender age of 8 yrs old under his parents german shepherd kennel with the guidance of their local kennel club. Ben has spent his lifetime learning the science and art of training through hands on experience, a bachelor of science degree in animal science and a master of science degree in animal science: ethology. His master's thesis was on Search Dog Performance. He obtained his PhD in Dec 2014 in Soil Science, forensic focus and has published papers on HRD dog capabilities in regards to forensic soils.

Tiffanie Turner began riding horses almost before she could walk. She also assisted with her parents kennel raising and training doberman pinschers. Tiffanie continued training horses and K9's throughout high school and college, while obtaining her bachelor of science in biomedical science.
Ben has over 45 years of K9 training experience and became involved in search and rescue in 2000. His first nationally certified recovery dog, was a border collie named "Pete" starting in 2003. Ben has partnered with 4 nationally certified partners, all of which have had recoveries on land and water. He has participated in recoveries after Hurricane's Katrina and Ike and the memorial day floods of 2015, as well as many drowning's and missing person searches across the state of Texas.
Tiffanie Turner began her SAR career in 2004 with a border collie mix named "Fanta" who would go on to be recognized as the National Association for Search and Rescue's K9 of the year in 2010 for her outstanding work on multiple recoveries. Tiff has trained 3 nationally certified wilderness HRD dogs and also currently fields a FEMA disaster HRD K9 "Fetch-it". Tiffanie participated in the recovery efforts for hurricane Ike and the memorial day floods of 2015, as well as many missing person searches over the years.
