This seminar utilizes realistic training amounts and consistent with decomposition seen in most drowning recoveries (within the first 3-5 days).
This seminar emphasizes the importance of foundation so that dogs can progress more rapidly once they understand how to effectively work on a boat. Training time is dedicated to teaching the dogs to search effectively off a boat before working problems. Attention to problem behaviors is given such as non stop barking or barking at visuals. Dogs are taught to ignore visual stimuli and only listen to their noses. Handlers are taught how to effectively work their dogs off the boat.
Shoreline training is also included starting at basics of getting the dogs to understand something can be underwater to working actual problems.
NASAR and FIRST Detection K9 certification testing available to a limited number of students.
A variety of boats will be used. Jon boats, Rescue one boat, and inflatable swift water type boat.
